THE AGRIC DEARTMENT OF THE SHAI-OSUDOKU DISTRICT ASSEMBLY, HAS HELD ITS ANNUAL RELC MEETING.
The Agric Department of the Shai-Osudoku District Assembly, held its annual Research Extension Farmer Linkage meeting at the Agric Conference Hall on Wednesday 16th August, 2023 to encourage farmers to form strong union in order to strengthen their market.
RELC is a platform which brings together researchers, agricultural extension officers, food processors, farmers and the various stakeholders to discuss and find solutions to challenges faced by farmers in the agricultural value chain.
The purpose of RELC was presented by the Regional Cordinator, Mr Nicholas Addai which he stated that, RELC is mearnt to innovates ways of improving their yields. He also encouraged the farmers to approach the Agric Officers to teach them the new farm practices.
Some of the farmers enlisted their challenges and contraints which include, Lack of storage facilities, Unavialability of seeds, Pest and diseases control and short life of produce. They also express the need for vertinary clinic and a slotter house in the district.
In a brief remarks by Agric Director of the Shai-Osudoku District Assembly, Madam Esinam Bonsu acknowledged most of the farmers for using the new breeds to achieve high yields.
Madam Esinam was optimistic that, proper medication and good husbandry practices for farm animals, training farmers on good agricultural practices and integrated pest management, and effective usage of agrochemicals, would solve most of the challenges.
She further indicated that, there would be an availability of improved seeds, Veterinary clinic and a recognised slaughter house in the district.
The Regional Director, recommended that,the various challenges in the agriculture value chain enumerated, would be dealt with . He further thanked the Department of Agriculture and partners for promoting the welfare of farmers saying that “we hope the various constraints identified will be given immediate attention.”
