DCE OF SHAI-OSUDOKU TOURS SOME OF THE QUARRY SITES WITHIN THE DISTRICT WITH THE DEPUTY MINISTER FOR MINES,LANDS AND NATURAL RESOURCE AND HIS TEAM.
The Deputy Minister for Mines, Lands and Natural Resources Hon. Mireku Duker paid a courtesy call to Shai-Osudoku District on Monday 27th March,2023.
Welcoming them was the District Chief Executive Hon. Fred Offei who expressed his gratitude to the Deputy Minister for taking time out of his busy schedule to visit the district.
The DCE took the opportunity to take the Deputy Minister and his team on a tour to some of the quarry sites within the district.
This exercise would allow the Deputy Minister to familiarize himself with the operations of the quarry sites, get firsthand information about their challenges and also ensure they comply with the regulations in their operations.
He took the occasion to engage some of the quarry operators, who raised some major concerns regarding the enforcement of laws by the regulators. They contended that some of quarry companies had not met the requirement of the installation of weighbridges to ensure value for money.
The Deputy Minister Hon. Mireku Duker encouraged the various quarry companies of his support to ensure all illegalities in the sector which were addressed.
He directed that all the quarries build weighbridges to enhance their operations and stated that his outfit would offer the necessary support to ensure that they meet the regulatory requirements.
The District Chief Executive Hon Fred Offei made a strong appeal to the quarry companies to join hands as a matter of urgency to assist the district to fix the roads and make them motorable to make traveling convenient for the commuting public.
Furthermore, he made a humble plea to encroachers of the quarry lands to stay clear of the buffers to enhance their safety and to guarantee that the quarries remain in business of providing granite for nation-building.
He further showed appreciation to Massey Quarry for providing 63 tipper truck trips of waste materials to revamp the Asutuare road.
In concluding his speech, District Chief Executive pleaded with the quarry companies to operate with the requirements of the law in the sector and also assured the companies that the collection of data from the various quarry sites are still on going to assist the district to ensure all quarry companies normalize their operations.
