District Chief Executive disburses items to Persons with Disabilities.

The District Chief Executive of the Shai-Osudoku District, Hon. Daniel Teye Akuffo on Wednesday 21st April 2021 in collaboration with the District Social Welfare Committee disbursed some items to Persons Living With Disabilities (PWD) in the district.

The occasion took place at Dodowa, the forecourt of the assembly and the Asutuare durbar grounds.

Present at the event was the District Coordinating Director Mr.Frederick Akitty, Information Officer, Madam Cornelia Asante, Presiding Member, Hon Noah Sabutey, District Social Welfare Officer, Mr. Robert Mensah Gbley amongst others.

The items which included nine deep freezers, 4 refrigerators, 1 pair of hearing aid, 1 special wheelchair, and 40 bags of charcoal among others were presented to the people to help them engage in businesses that will support them financially rather than hitting the streets to beg for alms.

Some of the persons who needed immediate medical attention were given medical sponsorship by the district for urgent medical attention. In all, a sum of GH316, 101.78 was disbursed to 402 PWD beneficiaries.

In an address, the chief executive in his speech said "Between 2018 and 2020 a total number of GH316101.78 was approved and disbursed to 402 PWD beneficiaries. These disbursements were in three categories that is supports for income-generating activities, educational and medical support, these items such as refrigerators and deep freezers were given to help the person generate income for themselves, funds were given to some beneficiaries to solve issues such as school fees and educational supplies in special schools, basic, secondary and even tertiary levels, medical support to some beneficiaries who had to undergo various form of surgical operation to correct deformities, visually impaired school children were provided lenses to facilitate their reading and writing, walking aids, hearing aids and wheelchairs were provided to PWD beneficiaries respectively.

Each person was given a sum of money as part of the items to ease their burdens and to help them feed as well. The PWDs thanked the assembly for reaching out to them especially in this COVID-19 era and assured the assembly that they will take good care of the items given to them and they will make good use of them regardless.
