District Chief Executive Tours the Councils

The District Chief Executive of Shai -Osudoku, Hon. Daniel Akuffo visited the Town and Area councils in the district on Wednesday, 24th January, 2018. The delegation included the District Coordinating Director and the District Information Officer. The Councils in the district are the Dodowa Town Council, Ayikuma Area Council, Osuwem Area Council and Asutsuare Area Council.

The purpose of the visit was to ensure that the sub-structures are working efficiently. That is to say, in the quest to deepen decentralization, the Assembly has decided to empower and challenge the councils to work. Officers from NADMO, Environmental Health, Social Welfare and Community Development have been posted to the Councils to assist in their operations

In the DCE's address, he stated that, surprise visits to the substructures revealed that the staff do not come to work as expected. In this regard, an attendance book will be signed on daily basis. He also mentioned that the clock in system at the Assembly will be extended to the councils and occasional headcount will be done.

After the address by the DCE, the tone was set for an open fora for the staff to speak out their grievances. The issues were centered around the following:

The extension of pipe borne water to the predominantly fishing areas in the district so that the people will not depend on the contaminated water bodies.

logistics support to some departments such as NADMO, Environmental health etc.to enhance their effective operations at the council level.

Attacks meted out to toll collectors by some tipper truck drivers.

On the way forward, expenditure at the council level will have to be need-driven, budgeted for and properly documented. The Assembly, in this regard introduced a Payment Voucher system of accountability to the councils.
