GT.ACCRA REGIONAL MINISTER EMBARKS ON MASSIVE TREE PLANTING EXERCISE IN DODOWA FOREST
The Greater Accra Regional Minister,Hon.Titus Glover has embarked on a massive tree planting exercise in the Dodowa Forest of the Greater Accra Region in an aggressive measure to restore its depleting forest cover.
The activities of encroachers continue to pose harmful consequences to the forest necessitating a conscious effort to reverse the trend.
While regenerating the depleting forest cover as a result of the activities of encroachers on the land, the exercise is also intended to preserve the rich historical background of the forest to the people of Shai-Osudoku.
The Minister was accompanied by the Shai-Osudoku District Chief Executive, Chief Director of the Regional Coordinating Council, The Presiding Member,Traditional rulers,Agencies, among others.
In a related development, a team of the Regional Security Task Force, led by the Minister has embarked on a demolition exercise to clear encroachers from significant portions of the forest land.
He said the exercise became necessary following the issuance of a two- month public notice for persons claiming ownership of the encroached lands to show up with the relevant documents which would be verified at the Lands Commission to settle the matter.
According to him, the Dodowa Forest has a solid historical and traditional relevance which is an integral part of the people and any attempt to destroy it would be equal to denigrating the history of the people and Ghana by extension.
He attributed the situation that necessitated the exercise to a case of chiefs selling these lands, urging them to refrain from that course of action.
The Hon. Minister admonished the people of the area to be vigilant and play their part to preserve what could be described as a ‘sacred forest’, occupying a unique place in the annals of the people of Shai-Osudoku.
