NEW RCC CHIEF DIRECTOR PAYS FAMILIARIZATION VISIT TO SHAI-OSUDOKU DISTRICT ASSEMBLY.
On Tuesday, 15th August 2023, the new Chief Director of the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, Mrs Lilian Baeka, together with a couple of council officials paid a familiarization visit to the Shai-Osudoku District Assembly to acquaint herself with staff and the working environment of the assembly.
At the short ceremony, the team were hosted at the forecourt of the Assembly with staff in full attendance.
Mrs.Baeka, a Development Planner, originally worked in the Eastern Region at New Juaben Municipal Assembly before moving to Accra to work with Tema Metropolitan Assembly before the carving out of assemblies such as Ashaiman Municipal, Adentan Municipal among others.
She later moved to Adentan Municipal Assembly where she worked as Head of Development Planning Unit.
In May 2020, she was posted to the office of the Head of Local Government Service as a Director responsible for management and technical services.
A Lawyer and solicitor of the supreme court in a wide background, she is also a member of the Ghana Bar Association, the Institute of Planners, and a member of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Practitioners of Ghana.
Mrs Baeka has worked on a number of donor projects under the World Bank, European Union and other International Organizations.
Prior to the Chief Director's address, the District Chief Executive(DCE), Hon. Fred Offei encouraged all workers to obey and follow the Chief Director's directives.
He indicated that, the assembly has dedicated staff who are committed to the assemblys progress, adding that staff performance was currently impressive with more room for improvement.
In her presentation, Mrs. Baeka encouraged staff to work diligently to merit a position in the first fifty MMDAs in Ghana when the next Performance Assessment is conducted.
According to her, working diligently entails staff conducting meetings and submitting reports, minutes and records on time.
She underscored the importance of documenting every activity to enable the Assembly score more marks during the assessment period, adding that any department that causes the assembly to lose points will be held responsible.
The Chief Director disclosed that management is willing to assist and fund staff in organizing meetings. She warned staff against the fraudulent act of fabricating minutes and reports.
The New Director cautioned all employees to avoid showing up late for work since mechanisms have been put in place by the council to assess staff attendance on the number of times a staff was not at work.
According to her, the Regional Minister has issued a directive to all assemblies to install the clock-in machine which will help distinguish between who arrive at work on time and those who do so late.
She said she would occasionally pay unannounced visit to check attendance and employees who violate the punctuality policy will face severe sanctions.
Mrs. Baeka said she will reach out to the Coordinating Director for the attendance book in order to check attendance.
The Records Department received commendation from the Chief Director for early and efficient submission of records.
Concluding, the DCE thanked the Chief Director for the visit and all staff for attending the meeting and contributing to make the program a success.
He also pleaded with the Director to use her clout to initiate the establishment of more offices for staff for greater efficiency adding that the assembly has readily available land at its disposal but lacks adequate offices for staff.
