The Shai-Osudoku District Celebrates 40th National Farmers’ Day with Enthusiasm and Honor at Austsuare Junction.

The event was attended by dignitaries including District Chief Executive Hon.Fred Offei, Hon. Member of Parliament,Hon. Assembly Members, and the esteemed Nenemei and Nanamei (Chiefs and Queen Mothers), honored the dedication and contributions of farmers to Ghana's agricultural development and food security.

In her welcome address, Director of Agriculture Madam Esenam Akosua Bonsu emphasized the importance of agriculture in Ghana’s economy. Despite the country’s expanding economic sectors, agriculture remains a cornerstone of GDP, supporting numerous livelihoods. This year’s theme, "Building Climate-Resilient Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security," underscores the need for innovative solutions to ensure resilient and sustainable food systems in the face of climate challenges.

Highlighting the importance of climate-resilient practices, She called for support for smallholder farmers to enhance productivity. She stressed the need for grassroots innovation, drought-resistant crop varieties, and reforestation efforts as crucial steps toward a sustainable agricultural future in Ghana. Partnerships and collaborative efforts with donors and stakeholders were also encouraged to further these goals.

The celebration featured a variety of engaging activities, including exhibitions that showcased climate-smart practices, innovative farming techniques, and an impressive display of locally grown produce, such as maize, rice, corn, palm nuts, pepper, eggs, and fowls.

In a speech delivered by the DCE,He said a total of 2,980 farmers have been registered under the planting for Food and Jobs phase II and registration is still ongoing.

He further stated, Ghana has the competitive advantage of using agricultural as a tool for the transformation of the National economy because the climatic conditions in most parts of the country support the production of non-traditional cash crops such as rice, vegetables,fruits to mention but a few.

The event culminated in an awards ceremony to recognize outstanding farmers and organizations. In appreciation of their hard work and contributions, awardees received various items including tricycles, deep freezers, 43-inch televisions, knapsacks, cutlasses, Wellington boots, toilet rolls, egg crates, plastic buckets, fridges, and fertilizer. John Agbati – Best Crop Farmer (Shai Hills)

Christian Azaglo Tetteh – Best Physically Challenged Farmer (New Jerusalem)

Adel Ward – Best Female Farmer (Ayikuma)

Kingsley Wayo – Best Livestock Farmer (Agortor)

Mahama Pinto – Best Innovative Farmer (Asebi)

Ayuba Governor – Best Youth Farmer (Osuwem)

Catherine Sogbadzi – Best Processor (Asutsuare)

Shai-Osudoku Cattle Farmers Association – Best Farmer-Based Organization (FBO)

Emmanuel Kwabena Badu – Best Poultry Farmer (Agomeda)

Michael Papafio Nortey – Best Extension Worker (Dodowa)

Jonathan Kwablah – Overall District Best Farmer (Asutsuare)

Each of these award winners represents excellence in their respective fields, contributing to the district’s agricultural success. Hon. Fred Offei commended the farmers and encouraged continued dedication to achieving food security and sustainable agricultural growth in Shai-Osudoku.

As the event concluded, the district reaffirmed its commitment to supporting farmers, empowering them with resources, and fostering a climate-resilient agriculture that ensures food security for future generations.
