DEMONSTRATORS PETITION DCE OVER DEPLORABLE ROADS IN THE SHAI-OSUDOKU DISTRICT.
Hundreds of residents in some parts of the Shai- Osudoku District on Wednesday, 2nd August, 2023 presented a petiition to the Dlistrict Chief Executive of the area, Hon.Fred Offei following a massive demonstration to protest against the deplorable state of roads in the area particularly on the Ayikuma -Doryumu stretch of the district.
The protesters who hailed from Doryumu, Ayikuma, and Kordiabe and its environ made their way to the office of the District Assembly where they presented their petition.
Chanting, "no roads no vote" and dressed in black and red, the aggrieved residents started the protest at exactly 11:30 am lasting almost 2 hours.
The District Chief Executive after receiving the petition from the protesters, wanted to address the demonstrators but was not given the chance.
In an interview conducted in his office, the DCE explained to them that,series of letters have been written to the Central Government seeking governments interventioni in the construction of the roads.
The District Chief Executive further stated that,some of the roads within the District are under construction and that he is at the verge of securing funds from the Government to help them upgrade the deplorable roads and to complete the ones that are already under construction.
He also explained the fact that he is in a good relationship with the Member Of Parliament for Shai- Osudoku District, Hon. Linda Ocloo which has enable him extend letters to her in order to enable her lobby.the matter at parliiamentary fora, adding that they are working hand in hand to develop the District.
Hon Offei therefore prevailed on the demontrators to exercise restraint as the assembly was sparing no effort to ensure that the situation was resolved sooner than later barring any contingency. He said though it was within the right of the demonstrators to go on that path, the concerning state of the roads has been on the cards of the assembly for sometime.
He assured the protestors of a positive change in the foreseeable future adding that he stands for peace and development.
