Ghana Poultry Project Trainees Inaugurated in Shai-Osudoku District.

Ghana Poultry Project(GPP) in collaboration with veterinary services directorate under the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has inaugurated 10 household poultry workers who deal in the rearing of local fowls.

The ceremony was held at the forecourt of the District Assembly.

As part of the eight(8) selected districts in Greater Accra region, the Shai-Osudoku District Agric department was selected as one of the beneficiaries due to its advanced methods in poultry rearing

In a remark, the regional coordinator for Ghana poultry project, Madam Mercy Tuffour said the workshop was to train people who deal in the rearing of local fowls on proper management and cultural practices.

She said it is very important to feed the fowls with the right food, do regular de-worming, vaccinate them regularly among others.

As part of the inauguration, the GPP donated some items to the trainees. This item included bicycles, uniforms, branded T-shirts, torch lights feed, Colman box, weighing scales, dewormers, I2 vaccine, ID cards and certificates, wellington boots,re-usable nose mask, and washable hand gloves.

Also, a refrigerator, stapler, Colman box, uniforms, and a branded T-shirts were given to the district agriculture officer to aid in the keeping of the vaccine clean and safe for use on the fowls.

Madam Mercy said the main reason for the workshop was to aid the rearers of the local fowl to make money for themselves and also promote the use and eating of local meat.

She further said the local fowls are more stronger than the foreign breeds and above all the local fowls have more healthier meats than the exotic breeds.
