DCE MEETS HAIRDRESSERS AND DRESSMAKERS’ ASSOCIATIONS UNDER THE NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM.

The District Chief Executive(DCE) of Shai-Osudoku District Assembly, Hon. Ignatius Godfred Dordoe, on Saturday, 22nd June, 2025, met Hairdressers and Dressmakers Associations at Asutsuare Presby Church Auditorium to discuss pertinent issues under the National Apprenticeship Program.

In his opening remarks, Hon. Ignatius Godfred Dordoe welcomed all the artisans and thanked them for making time out of their busy schedules to attend.

He explained that His Excellency the President, John Dramani Mahama, in his resetting agenda, plans to include the informal sector, especially all artisans, to become part of the “Building of The Ghana We”agenda informal introduced.

He, therefore, introduced the National Apprenticeship Program to get all the sectors involved.

Hon. Dordoe emphasized that, though the forms for the National Apprenticeship Program were out, the government was now rolling out a pilot program to see how it would work out before swinging into full action.

According to him, the program was intended to train apprentices to acquire knowledge in any sector they are interested in, help them learn professions, and also earn some income in the future.

He mentioned that, the National Apprenticeship Program has a six-month duration, adding that the government will also provide the apprentice with the necessary tools needed to learn.

“The business owners will be paid every month with a specific fee per apprentice, so the number of apprentices you get determines your monthly payment”, he said.

The DCE further made the artisans aware that the government would also support the business owners who do not have enough equipment and other requirements to train the apprentices.

During an open forum, some concerns and questions raised by the artisans include:

 The duration was too short, and they asked if it could be extended

 The proximity of the apprentice

 Whether or not there would be a middle person in terms of apprentice allocation

 How much was the government going to pay per apprentice?

 Are the apprentices going to be provided with food allowance?

Responding to some of these issues, Hon. Dordoe assured them that the government would provide them with all the requirements needed before the program is rolled out fully.

Additionally, he assured them of the Assembly’s unwavering support before and during the program to make the program a success.

In his closing remarks, the DCE thanked all the artisans, emphasizing that his office is always open to them in case of any issues or personal advice they may need.
