SHAI-OSUDOKU DCE ENGAGES GPRTU CHAIRMEN AND OKADA RIDERS.

 

The District Chief Executive( DCE)of Shai-Osudoku District Assembly Hon. Ignatius Godfred Dordoe on Wednesday 4th June, 2025 met all the GPRTU Chairmen and Okada riders within the district at the conference hall of the District Assembly.

 

In his opening remarks, Hon. Ignatius Godfred Dordoe welcomed all the GPRTU Chairmen and Okada riders to the meeting and also thanked them for taking time off their busy schedules to avail themselves to the meeting.

 

He said he received complaints from some aggrieved passengers within the district, who complained bitterly about existing transport fares, even though there is a 15% decrease in same.

 

This, he said, prompted him to engage the union leaders and the Okada riders to find solutions to the situation and also to listen to some of their concerns.

 

The following are some of the issues and concerns raised by the union leaders and Okada riders within the District;

• High Spare parts prices

• Bad road network within the district

• Floating cars and motor riders roaming within the district

• Wasting of time by some passengers during trips

• Fake spare parts dealers within the district causing havoc to motorist

• Lack of personnel hygiene by some Okada riders

• Lack of manners by some Okada riders

• Unfair treatment by some of the taxi unions

 

The DCE noted their concerns and promised to take action on the one that can be handle at his level and push the rest to the appropriate quarters.

 

He also stated this would not be the last meeting but there would be continual engagement to ensure smooth running of the various unions within the district.

 

The Hon. DCE also outlined some of the measures he intends putting in place to regularize the operations of the Okada riders within the district.

 

Below are some of the measures

• Vehicle and Okada fares should be regulated when there is an increase or decrease in fares.

• All Okada riders must belong to a particular union.

• All Okada riders must have an ID Card.

• Proper orientation for all Okada riders on riding tips and precautions by the National Road Safety Commission.

• Building of lorry station to the GPRTU in terms of revenue mobilization.

• Formation of a taskforce to help regularize vehicle and Okada activities within the district.

• Centralized union to help regulate activities of the Okada riders.

 

In his closing remarks, the District Chief Executive thanked all the leaders of the unions and Okada riders for making the meeting a success and promised to continually engage them, to make sure the resetting agenda by His Excellency the President John Dramani Mahama was achieved.
