SHAI-OSUDOKU DISTRICT ASSEMBLY HANDS OVER AGOMEDA POLICE STATION TO DIVISIONAL POLICE ADMINISTRATION.
The Shai-Osudoku District Assembly has handed over the Agomeda Police station to the Divisional Police Administration at a ceremony held on the 31st of March 2023 at Agomeda.
Representing the District Chief Executive, the District Works Engineer Mr. Francis Agbo thanked the community for their support and patience in ensuring this project was completed successfully.
He emphasized the importance of security in community development and growth, because without security no community would experience the development and growth they need and deserve. He said security ensures that there is peace and serenity to enable people go about their day activities without the fear of theft or being attacked.
He therefore admonished the community that the police are there to protect their lives and properties so they should work hand in hand with the police to make their mandate easy.
The Honorable Presiding Member and the Assembly member of the Agomeda Electoral area Hon. Noah Sabutey also gave a brief history of how this police station came into existence and what necessitated it.
He emphasized that the police station became a necessity in Agomeda because of the growing crime rate and lawlessness within the community.
Hence, the need to convert the abandon old post office into the beautiful police station we are all gathered here to witness .
The District works Engineer, Mr. Francis Agbo on behalf of the District Chief Executive officially handed over the police station to the Divisional Police Commander, ACP. Francis Nchor.
In his acceptance speech, ACP Francis Nchor thanked the various stakeholders and the community for putting up such a wonderful edifice. He said a facility like this is in line with the Inspector General of Police’s agenda for community policing. Such facilities help the police to understand the dynamics of security issues in these communities.
Furthermore, the police unit for a long time now has been policing Agomeda issues from Doryumu which was not helping them deliver their mandate speedily. He also pleaded with the people of Agomeda to help them deliver their mandate by operating within the confines of the law.
Nana Dr. Korlekwor Korli Yohi lll, queen mother of MLA Hiormeh Division addressed the community on behalf of the Chiefs and Elders of Agomeda by first thanking the District Chief Executive Hon Fred Offei, the people of the community and the various stakeholders.
She said petty crimes such as stealing of household items, domestic animals, motor bikes, damaged properties as well as lawlessness has been on the ascendancy in Agomeda and its environs over the past few months. Some residents especially women have lost their business capital and assets through theft.
Additionally, some residents have received threats from their neighbors.
Furthermore, there are some who live in constant fear and anxiety and this compromises their right to security and protection from harm and torture as humans and Ghanaians . She emphasized that a police station is a symbol of safety and security.
The presence of the police gives the people confidence to go about their daily activities without fear, intimidation or hinderance and this also enhances their socio-economic development.
Hence, the operation of this police station which would serve Agomeda and surrounding communities with a total population of about 6000 is long overdue and the handing over of the facility to the police administration to start executing their mandate for the people in the community would no longer delay.
She tasked the police officers in charge of the station to be disciplined, serve with excellence and above all be respectful, open and accountable to the community.
In conclusion, she admonished the police and the people of the community by stating that, the people are a major stakeholder in their work hence their relationship with the leadership and the members of the community would determine the extent of success they would achieve as far as their mandate is concerned.
She assured the community members that the police were not enemies to anyone in the community , rather they have come to protect lives and property and ensure law and order leading to their own benefit so the community should accord them the needed support.
