Shai-Osudoku District Assembly holds Stakeholder's Meeting with Quarry Companies.

The Shai-Osudoku District Assembly(SODA) on Thursday 15th April 2021 at the District Chief Executive's(DCE) residence held a Stakeholders meeting with the quarry companies in the area.

The meeting was held to bring all the various quarries operating in the district together to educate them on ways in which they can operate their quarries effectively and safely without disturbing the residents living close to the quarry sites.

The meeting was also held to review the wave and effects of criminal activities that happen within these enclaves.

The Chief Executive Hon. Daniel Akuffo stated that one of the quarries is making provisions for the setting up of a police post at one of the enclaves, adding that they will need the assistance of the Assembly in moving policemen to the post who will stay closer to the sites and fight criminal acts.

He further stated that armed robbers visit the sites undaunted because the sites are detached to some extent from the normal residence of the people and business areas.

He explained that though they have received requests from the quarries to set up the police post, it could not be done due to lack of funding so he pleaded with the various quarries to assist in the funding process in order that their requests of a police post at the quarries sites would see the light of day and criminal cases around the quarry sites will be solved or better still curtailed.

Hon. Akuffo asked the members of the quarry sites present to bring onboard their challenges and reasons why they are not able to assist in policing their businesses.

“I know some of you have been able to bring policemen and the military to protect your business but that is not enough, we will like to involve the Assembly and see how we could solve the issue at hand," he said.

The Chairman for the Quarry operators also mentioned that there should be the creation of a quarry fund that will assist the quarries, the Assembly, and the families that have moved from their lands for the operation of the quarry sites.

He believed that the fund was going to help resolve some of the issues in the operational areas.

Furthermore, he encouraged the people by telling them of the success story of a sister district which ventured into setting up the quarry fund yielding positive results in the district and the district has reached its peak.

This will not only serve the interest of the owners of the quarry but will also solve issues of road networks and introduce some physical development projects within that area.
