Shai-Osudoku District Assembly Launches Operation Clean Your Frontage
The Shai-Osudoku District Assembly has launched the "Operation Clean Your Frontage" campaign calling on residents to observe habitual environmental cleanliness.
The Presiding Member, Hon. Noah Sabutey in an address read on behalf of the District Chief Executive Hon. Fred Offei Twum congratulated the PRESIDENT for the initial vision to make Accra the cleanest Africa.
He said the "Operation Clean Your Frontage" initiative would help eradicate the old practice of open defecation, littering in public places, and poor household hygiene which would improve public health by far.
He said good sanitation is the responsibility of all citizens and not any individuals, adding that all inhabitants should do well to cooperate with the environmental team.
He pointed out that a task force has been put in place to monitor and oversee the compliance with the sanitation law which will be enforced come 1st February 2022.
The Assembly, he said has started a public sensitization exercise with market women which will be spread to other groups in the district.
In a welcome address, the District Environmental Health Officer, Madam Agnes Korlettey said sanitation is a shared responsibility, as such all must play their part to ensure a safe and sound environment.
She said per the gazetted district assembly bye-laws, section 26, subsection 7(12), it is mandatory for every resident of the district to clean their immediate environment, adding that anyone who fails to do so will be penalized by the law with imprisonment or a fine.
The District Health Director, Rev.Ebenezer Asiamah, urged the public to observe the basic hygiene protocols such as the washing of hands, using sanitizers, social distancing among others because the virus was still with us.
He said since Covid- 19 arrived two years ago, the district has recorded 619 cases, out of which 14 have died and 5 are on home management.
The Health Director admonished the public to also avail themselves of vaccination so as to be fully covered.
According to him, having come thus far, it was clear the vaccine was harmless and working therefore as many people should get vaccinated.
Dr.Asiamah advised the public to get involved in the National vaccination day from 2nd - 6th February 2022, to be vaccinated adding that they should also take the booster dose to fortify their immune system.
The Chief of Numerous Okukurubuor Nene Tei Kwesi Agyeman V said the Operation Clean Your Frontage campaign is a familiar policy and common language everybody should understand and embrace.
He said if we are able to clean our environment, we will all be free of minor diseases that would cost us money to treat if they were to affect us.
The Chief urged the people to make it a routine to constantly clean their surroundings, homes, and offices in order to put the district on the map in the event of ranking of districts in this respect.
The District Police Commander(Dodowa), said the police are holding themselves in readiness to ensure the laws will be enforced and support the Assembly for this important exercise.
