SHAI-OSUDOKU DISTRICT INFORMATION DEPT SENSITIZE ITS COMMUNITY ON R.T.I ACT, 989.

 

The District Assembly's Information Services Department launched a month community sensitization program to educate its inhabitants about the Right to Information Law Act, 989

 

Madam Felicia Hagan, the R.T.I. officer and the staff embarked on the education in the entire District using the assembly van,announcing and explaining the RTI law to the residents. Madam Hagan explained the law in English and Twi, whilst Mr. Ebenezer Bentum interpreted it in the Dangme.

 

The RTI officer explained to the citizens of the district that, the RTI Act came into effect and aims to enhance accountability and transparency by allowing Ghanaians and non- access information on central and local government as well as publicly financed non-governmental organizations. It gives everyone the opportunity to access information. 

 

She added that, the Acts give privilege to indigent and People With Disability (PWD) in the process of accessing information. There are application forms available for all who are interested in requesting information at the various public institutions and agencies. Oral transcription into text will be done for all interested parties who don’t know how to write. 

 

She advises individuals to avoid relying on misleading information, but to embrace the duty of visiting the assembly if they require information on the district's, and the government's projects and policies. The RTI law's objective is to protect them throughout the process of seeking information.

 

The sensitization operation was done in the communities of Dodowa Township, Ayikuma, Doryumu, Kordiabe, Manya Jorpanya, Shai Hills, Natriku, Kadzanya, Asutsuare, Duffor, Kortorkor, Jerusalem, Kongo, Luom, Agorto, Volivo, Duffor, Kasunya, Tokpo, Osuwem, Agomeda, Odumse, Lorlorvor, Abiete, Kutuwe , Asebi and Agbokpotsekpo.
