SHAI-OSUDOKU DISTRICT OBSERVES REGIONAL SANITATION DAY.
As part of measures to implement and enforce sanitation policy rules, the Shai-Osudoku District has observed the Regional Sanitation Day at Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region.
The policy seeks to promote cleanliness and mitigate the rate of disease spread in human habitations.
Activities that took place included clearing drains, sweeping streets and collecting waste to promote environmental hygiene.
The exercise saw people from all walks of life including shop owners, traders, commercial vehicle operators, volunteers among others participating in the exercise.
Interacting with the media midway through the exercise, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Ocloo commended the inhabitants for their commitment and sense of full participation.
She said the District does not have much challenge in terms of sanitation management adding that the only difficulty is strict law enforcement which was key to achieving the desired results.
She urged the inhabitants to be law-abiding and adopt a positive attitude to sanitation issues in the area.
Nene Tei kwesi Agyeman III, Numerse Chief expressed his satisfaction with the numbers that turned out to participate in the exercise.
He said regular cleanup exercises has the potential to curtail the rate of disease infestation which would save cost of hospital attendance for treatment.
He called on all inhabitants to play their part because the matter of sanitation management was a shared responsibility.
The Chief commended the Minister for initiating the exercise in the area adding that the exercise would be replicated in weekly and monthly turns to keep the momentum.
Nene Agyeman III urged all assembly members to be fully committed to the sanitation campaign in their various electoral areas.
The District Coordinating Director, Dr.Mrs Elizabeth Ampaw Delatsa said the assembly would reinforce its sanitation education in the basic schools to implant the idea of environmental hygiene in the children in their early ages.
She urged all and sundry to begin the task of proper sanitation management in their homes before playing that role in public.
According to her, the laws on environmental hygiene in the district was always applied to curb sanitation indiscipline, adding however that it would be reinforced going forward.
