President Pays Courtesy call on Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs.

President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo- Addo has paid a courtesy call on the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs at Guggisberg Memorial Hall, Dodowa.

The rationale behind the visit was to interact with the chiefs as part of his 3-day tour of the region and to keep abreast with the challenges and concerns of the chiefs in the region.

Accompanying the President were the Council of State Member, Mr Enoch Teye Mensah, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Henry Quartey, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botwe, the various MMDCEs in the region among other government officials.

In a welcome address, the Vice President of the GARHC, Nii Odaifio Welentsi on behalf of the President of GARHC, Nene Kwesi Aadegbor Ngmongmowuyaa Animle VI pleaded with the President to act decisively on changing the name of the Greater Accra Region to "Ga Dangme Region".

He also thanked the President for implementing the Free SHS program which has taken a lot of the youth out of the streets.

Nii Welentsi further thanked the President for implementing the NABCo program and pleaded with the President to give the NABCo employees permanent job portfolios in the public sector to guarantee their jobs.

Nii Welentsi pointed out that the House is seriously against same-sex marriage in the region and that the chefs will never tolerate any such behaviour.

He also pleaded with the President to help in the maintenance of discipline and order in the various traditional authorities indicating that out of the thirteen paramouncies in the region, only six seats have been occupied, as such the house would need the intervention of the President and the security agencies to resolve the rest of the chieftaincy issues to restore the full complement of the house.

Responding to the concerns raised, the President thanked the chiefs and the people of the Greater Accra Region for supporting him and his party to win the 2020 elections, in spite of losses suffered in the Parliamentary seats.

He assured the house of his support in settling the dispute cases adding that they should handle all cases fairly with honest and quicken the process of resolving those matters in order to have the full complement of the house in the shortest possible time.

The President said he would consider the change of name adding however that he would consult widely on the issue and that a verdict would soon come from his outfit to the House of Chiefs.
